California Air Resources Board (CARB), is the department of the California Environmental Protection Agency.
Unanimously voted to implement new limits for formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products, CARB Phase 2 is the California Air Resources Board’s newest emission standard for formaldehyde exposure, which took effect at January 1, 2011.
Hardwood plywood (HWPW) now has a 0.05-ppm maximum, particleboard (PB) has a 0.09-ppm maximum, and medium density fiberboard (MDF) now has a 0.11-ppm maximum.
The rest of the United States is expected to adopt the CARB Phase 2 standards sometime in 2015.
